Finding furniture for your home isn’t as straightforward as it might seem. The truth is that, depending on which furniture showroom in the GTA you visit, options may be limited. At a high-quality furniture store, however, the sheer number of options might be overwhelming!
While you may be eager to furnish your home as soon as possible, you should take your time to plan, budget, research what you might need, and then identify the best quality furniture store for you to begin your search.
Here are our top tips to help you choose the perfect furniture for your home!
Determine Your Budget
Before you step foot in any furniture showroom in Brampton or in the GTA area, you should first determine what you’re able and willing to spend. Keep in mind that you often get what you pay for when it comes to furniture.
Cheap materials will eventually rear their ugly head—causing your furniture to age or break down prematurely. This is especially true if you have young children or pets that use your furniture. With that said, new furniture doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg either. Many brands offer options that are equally affordable and durable.
In any case, create a budget and know that any extra money you can put towards your furniture will pay dividends in terms of design, quality, and durability.
Remember to prioritize anchor items that will be used regularly—such as kitchen tables, chairs, beds, and sofas. Then, if you have room left in your budget, supplement with less essential pieces.
Focus on Quality
This goes for both the furniture itself and the store where you shop. Some furniture stores offer budget options or limited selections, while a designer furniture store, such as Direct Interiors, will offer a wide range of high-quality furniture brands.
As for the quality of the furniture, you don’t need to be an expert or an interior designer to determine whether a piece is well-made. Structurally, make sure the piece is stable and level, and that it doesn’t wobble or creak.
Then, take a closer look at the piece’s materials. Not all “wood” furniture is made from real wood, for example. Some pieces are made from particle board or composite materials. Not all “leather” furniture is made from real leather either. Some pieces are made from faux leather, vegan leather, bonded leather, or PU.
Finally, check the piece’s finish. It should be smooth and uniform without cracks, streaks, and other blemishes.
Choose Pieces That Will Last
There are two components to this. As we just discussed, you should choose pieces that are durable; but you should also try to select pieces that are timeless. Your furniture should stay in style so that you’re not replacing it every two years!
When in doubt, choose neutral tones—such as white, gray, black, and cream—over bright tones or eclectic patterns. This will ensure that your furniture ages gracefully, even as surrounding décor is added, removed, or changed. If you do opt for “trendy” items, be sure to use them sparingly.
