Looking for the best mattress in Toronto to complete your bedroom design?

The process of choosing a mattress marries comfort and interior design. Of course, you should find a mattress that will allow you to sleep comfortably, but you should also choose an option that is a seamless fit in your bedroom’s overall design.

Here are four practical steps you should take when shopping for the best mattress in Toronto!

1. Consider the Size of Your Bedroom

Mattress sizes range from twin to California king. From an interior design perspective, the size of your bedroom might present some limitations when choosing bedroom furniture.

If you’re working with limited space, you may want to go with a queen mattress. Vice versa, you may want to choose a king or California king mattress if you need to fill out a large bedroom footprint.

2. Choose Your Mattress Type

Today, there are several types of mattresses on the market:

  • Memory foam. The memory foam mattress offers a unique combination of comfort and support. Because it is lighter than other mattress types, it is easy to move when rearranging your bedroom furniture.
  • Spring. The spring mattress uses a coil system to provide support. At the same time, is a little bouncier and heavier than most mattresses.
  • Hybrid. The hybrid mattress uses a spring system for support and a foam or latex top layer for comfort.
  • Latex. The latex mattress has a similar feel to that of memory foam, but it is also bouncier and a little more durable.
  • Airbed. The airbed mattress features an inflatable core than is controlled by a remote or smartphone. This allows you to adjust the mattress’s firmness as you see fit.

3. Select a Firmness Level

Firmness levels range from extra soft to extra firm and are often represented on a scale of 1–10. One factor to consider when choosing a firmness level is your sleeping position.

Side sleepers often prefer soft or medium-soft mattresses, as they are easier on the ribs and hips. What’s more, softer mattresses are able to form to the body’s natural curvature.

Back sleepers often prefer medium or medium-firm mattresses, as they provide plenty of support without being overly firm.

Stomach sleepers often prefer firm or extra-firm mattresses, as they keep the body propped up and align the hips with the spine. If you tend to sleep in a variety of positions, a medium-firm mattress is usually a safe choice.

4. Identify any Additional Features You Might Need

Beyond sizes, types, and firmness levels, there are features you might want your mattress to include.

To start, consider whether you run cold or hot during the night. Those who frequently overheat might want to opt for a cooling mattress. These mattresses use materials, such as gel-infused foam, to help absorb heat.

If you struggle with certain allergies, you may want to choose a mattress constructed from hypoallergenic materials.

Finally, consider whether you want your mattress to include edge support. This mitigates the “sinking” feeling when you roll toward the edge of the mattress or sit on the side of the bed.
